Passing Down a Legacy of Hunting Traditions

Complete Article Below.

At UC Hunting Properties, we celebrate not just the thrill of the hunt, but the generations

of traditions and values that define our lifestyle. One of our members, Matt Schultz, ex-
emplifies this heritage, having lived the hunting lifestyle since he was a child. His story is a

testament to the deep-rooted connections between family, tradition, and the great out-
doors.

This journey began in 1996, when Matt was just 12 years old. Back then, hunting was a dif-
ferent world—no internet, no digital maps, and no high-tech gadgets. What they did have

was a shared passion and a long-term plan set in motion by his father, who had been
hunting out west since the late 1970s. His father’s foresight in purchasing Colorado elk
preference points laid the groundwork for a hunt they would one day share—a hunt that
would come full circle nearly three decades later.

As time passed, the miles became longer, and the mountains steeper, but the bond be-
tween father and son grew stronger. In 2023, they finally embarked on separate hunts,

each determined to honor the tradition that had shaped their lives. For his father, now 68
years old, this meant pushing the limits of physical endurance to hunt the rugged terrain
of Colorado. The outcome was a storybook hunt—covering 10 miles a day in challenging
conditions, culminating in the harvest of a magnificent bull elk.
For our Matt, the hunt was not just about the prize at the end, but about embodying the
skills, patience, and persistence passed down from his father. As he navigated the steep

canyons and craggy drainages, every step was guided by the lessons learned over a life-
time of hunting. The moment he finally took down his bull was not just a victory for him,

but a tribute to his father’s legacy.
This story goes beyond a simple recount of a successful hunt; it reflects the values that UC
Hunting Properties holds dear. It highlights the importance of passing down traditions,
the dedication to mastering one’s craft, and the joy of sharing these experiences with the
next generation. For us, hunting isn’t just a sport—it’s a way of life, a heritage, and a bond
that connects families through time.
At UC Hunting Properties, we’re proud to be a part of these stories, helping hunters live
the lifestyle they treasure while passing down a legacy that will continue for years to
come.
