MDC Hosts Prescribed Burn Workshop

Trophy Properties & Auction | January 14, 2016 | Land Management

Deer season is coming to a close for many here in the Midwest.  It is a sad day I know.  The great news is… preparation for the 2016 season is here. As a landowner there are several tools in your toolbox that will help you be ready when opening day arrives in the fall.

One such tool is the “Prescribed Burn”.  There is simply no way to duplicate the natural benefits from a fire without actually having a fire.  That is where the department of conservation comes in.

The MDC is holding a workshop designed to educate landowners in the art of the prescribed burn.

“These workshops are great for landowners who would like to learn about using prescribed fire as a tool to improve wildlife habitat on their property,” said MDC Private Land Conservationist John Pinkowski. “While uncontrolled wildfires can harm habitat and property, controlled use of prescribed fire can actually improve the health of natural ecosystems.”
