Property Description

Wesley off grid chalet on 10 acres of land. This well-constructed chalet style home offers all the amenities you could want and still be in a remote setting! Hickory cabinets, 2 bedrooms plus a loft area, radiant heat with wood back up and lots of privacy! Large, covered porches, small private pond and outbuildings, this property has what it takes to make this a year-round homestead or your prized weekend getaway.

Located in the town of Wesley with a population of about 130 people this property is about a half hours drive out of Machias, 30 miles from Calais and the St Stephens NB boarder crossing and about an hour and half drive to Bangor.  Just over 300 miles to Boston.  Close enough to be a weekend getaway…. But far enough to offer a lot of privacy if that is what you are after. Wesley was incorporated January 24th 1833, and named after John Wesley, the founder of the English Methodist movement.

Otter lake has a public access lot at # 510 and the public lot on Long lake is # 112, that one has a nice spot to put in a boat. Both lakes have good fishing, and the area is popular for hunting as well with a couple of guide services working out of the subdivision.  This is a great area for anyone who enjoys ATV’s, Snowmobiles, or any outside activity any time of the year.

Wesley is close to Machias and the coast, easy travel to public beaches at Roque Bluffs state park with its long sand beach and the freshwater pond across the road from the ocean. There are some beautiful walking trails there as well to enjoy.   Machiasport has Fort O’Brian State park as well as Jasper Beach with its rolling tides and the sound of the water rushing over the rocks.  Machias is the county seat and holds a lot of history for those who are interested in that. The first battle of the American Revolution was there and the history available to study can keep anyone pretty busy! A visit to Burnham Tavern is a great place to start on Colonial Way in Machias.  Wesley itself has a pretty impressive historical society housed in what was the Wesley Corner School on Rt 9.  This building is open to the public a lot of weekends and anyone may call to set up a tour if they cannot hit it when it is open.

The property is about an hours drive from Lubec and the famous lighthouses in that area, as well as the many hiking trails there and along the Bold Coast in Culter.  The Moosehorn wildlife refuge is only a little more than a half hours drive away that offers thousands of acres of trails to hike or horseback ride on. They do open some roads to cars in the fall to enjoy the changing leaves.
