Spencer Wood

I’m Spencer Wood, also known as the Real Estate Cowboy. I’m a licensed realtor serving all 16 counties of Maine, specializing in rural, recreational, and investment properties—everything from timberland and off-grid camps to waterfront cabins, farmland, and large hunting tracts.

In addition to real estate, I own and operate Atlantic Earthwork, a Maine-based excavation company focused on building hunting properties, food plots, trail systems, and remote infrastructure for landowners. I work hands-on with clients to turn raw parcels into productive, accessible, wildlife-rich ground—and that experience gives me a unique edge when helping people buy or sell land.

I live the outdoor lifestyle I sell. I split time between the western Maine mountains and a boat I’ve been restoring on the coast in Portland. Most days, you’ll find me out with my two Labradors, Chilli and Stump—duck hunting, running ridgelines, checking trail cams, or exploring Maine’s woods and waters. It’s a way of life, and it shapes how I work with my clients.

Whether you’re looking to sell a high-value parcel or buy your dream retreat, I’ll walk the land with you, shoot straight, and make sure the process is clear, honest, and handled right from start to finish.

If you care about land like I do—we’ll get along just fine.

Chalet on 192 Acres with Stunning Mountain…

Embden, ME
Somerset
Some properties are impressive on paper. Others have to be experienced. Set at the end of a .60-mile private driveway with underground power, this home sits at approximately 900′ of elevation on 192 acres, overlooking a landscape that feels almost endless. On a clear day, the views stretch close to 100 miles, with mountains and lakes unfolding in nearly every direction. The sense of height, space, and quiet is immediate — and rare. Embden, Maine is well known among anglers for its diverse and productive fishing opportunities set in a classic central Maine landscape of lakes, ponds, and cold, clean water. Embden Pond is the centerpiece, offering a deep, coldwater fishery that supports landlocked salmon and lake trout alongside warmwater species like smallmouth bass. The pond is popular for both open-water and ice fishing, with public access making it easy to launch a boat or fish from shore. In addition to Embden Pond, nearby smaller ponds and connecting waters broaden the local fishing options, providing opportunities for perch, pickerel, and trout. Whether trolling for salmon, casting for bass, or setting up on the ice in winter, the area offers four-season fishing that appeals to both casual anglers and dedicated sportsmen. Hunting opportunities around Embden are equally strong, thanks to a mix of working forests, conserved lands, wetlands, and remote backcountry. Large tracts of publicly accessible land in and around town ensure room to roam for hunters pursuing white-tailed deer, black bear, wild turkey, upland birds, and small game. Wetland areas attract waterfowl, while the surrounding forestland provides ideal habitat for deer and other big game. Moose are also present in the region, adding to the sense of true Maine wilderness. With well-managed wildlife populations and ample access to both public and private timberlands, Embden serves as an excellent base for hunters looking to experience Maine’s long-standing sporting traditions in a quiet, uncrowded setting. The home is positioned to take full advantage of its surroundings, with long-range views visible from multiple rooms and three sides of the house. Inside, the space is comfortable and efficient, featuring a renovated kitchen, open living area, pellet stove, heat pumps on both levels, propane wall heaters, and an EVR air exchange system. The layout includes one bedroom plus a loft, 1.5 bathrooms, and a full insulated basement with a one-car garage. The basement offers clear potential to be converted into additional bedrooms or other livable space, providing flexibility without altering the footprint of the home. The primary bathroom features heated tile floors, a soaking tub, double vanity, and stand-up shower. Outside, the infrastructure is already in place with two drilled wells, a septic system, and a 20x40 garage pad, allowing for future expansion while preserving the elevation, privacy, and views. This is a property where pictures, videos, and words fall short. The scale of the land, the distance of the horizon, and the feeling of standing there simply can’t be captured — it has to be seen in person.

Pittston, ME
Kennebec
This 33.4-acre lot in Pittston, Kennebec County is a rare find, offering its own private pond along with nearby access to Nehumkeag Pond, a beautiful 179-acre waterbody just down the road. The private pond sits right on the property and gives the land a peaceful, retreat-like feel—great for relaxing, exploring, hunting or simply enjoying quiet time outdoors. Nehumkeag Pond offers the bigger-water option for paddling, fishing, and spending time on the water when you want more space. Owners here also have use of roughly 100 acres of additional community land, giving you even more room to walk, ride, and explore without leaving the area. It adds a ton of value for anyone who loves the outdoors. The land itself is easy to work with: a driveway is already in, the building site is opened up, and the property has a completed soil test for septic. It’s a quiet, private setting surrounded by large acreage, with plenty of room for a home or cabin and year-round recreation. Even with all this privacy, you’re just minutes to Gardiner and a short drive to Augusta. Large acreage with a private pond, access to a big nearby pond, and use of 100 acres of community land is extremely hard to find in this area—making this a standout opportunity for anyone looking for space, water, and a laid-back Maine setting.
