The West Elks are just a few miles to the east, with many miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding, and hunting. The famed Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is a half-hour drive to the south, while the massive Grand Mesa, with 300 lakes and reservoirs, fills the horizon to the north. Delta and Montrose offer good shopping and services such as car dealers and Home Depot. Nearby Hotchkiss, only 10 minutes away, has an excellent medical clinic.
